Link Building Services
As stated in our disclaimer further down on this page, we offer “link building” services only to the extent that they fully comply with the guidelines and recommendations of the major search engines. This may include:
- registering your site with reputable directories
- branding your site through bylined article placement & syndication
- creative buzz marketing and online PR
- leveraging blogs to stir up interest and conversation
We do not offer low-value reciprocal link building campaigns or any other “get rich quick” schemes. We believe the best way to get top search engine rankings is to build a site with truly great value and then let people know it exists. As the old saying goes, you can’t polish a turd.
Rather, we work with you to create some gold, and then just polish it up a bit.
About Link Building
“Link Building” can mean different things to different people as related to SEO, so please let us convey right off the bat that we do not participate in any “black hat” SEO, nor do we use any tactics that violate the search engines guidelines. In fact, we pretty much use Google’s guidelines as our blueprint.
Now with that disclaimer out of the way, links from other websites to your website are a very important component in online marketing. When other sites link to your site you stand to gain traffic from visitors that site has referred to your site. The closer that site is to your topic and target market, the better (higher converting) that traffic generally is.
But there’s so much more… Search engines also look the links to your website from other sites. They look at:
- who links to you
- how many sites link to you
- why do they link to you
- in what context is the link
- what words are used in the link
- when did the link first appear
- who links to the site that is linking to you
Search engines ask all of these questions to understand the dynamics of the link relationship – that is – why that other site is linking to your site. Why do they care about this? They care because they equate a link from one website to another as a “vote” or voucher of credibility. That is to say that if you have a site about your investment management firm and The Wall Street Journal links to your site, the search engines interpret that as a sort of recommendation on behalf of them for your firm (your site).
Just as in the offline world, a recommendation from someone who is highly regarded means a lot more than a recommendation from someone with a bad reputation. Thus, the number of other sites isn’t nearly as important as who those sites are, and why they are linking to you.
Up until this point we’ve looked at the details but missed the main point… a bit. The general thought is that when more and better sites are linking to website A, it probably means website A has something worthwhile. Thus, to get sites to link to you a lot of it is good old fashioned marketing… make (and promote) something that *is indeed* worthwhile.
If you sell blue widgets at the same price and with the same level of service as everyone else than its tough to inspire people such that they feel compelled to evangelize your service. So what can you do?
Well first off, you can change your website and/or marketing approach to have something of interest. Its a lot easier to make people think you’ve got something special when you really do. This may require you to think out of the box a little bit. Get creative. That’s one area where we can help. Have a contest. Give something away. Do something interesting. Even it if seems a bit unconventional or even nutty – interesting ideas, tools, information get publicity. In this sense, link building online is no different than traditional PR.
