Old Spice’s Social Media Engagement via YouTube Videos & Twitter Replies

Per mUmBRELLA, Old Spice is getting favorable reviews on their recent social media campaign using Twitter and Youtube. They’ve got some funny writers and a great actor who are basically making short 30-45 second video clips in reply to Tweets and mentions they’re getting about the campaign. Its is a very active way of engaging with consumers. Who wouldn’t want a silly little video talking about them? It feeds our egos and gets us to discuss them and share with our friends, all the while gaining brand recognition for Old Spice.

In this case, I suspect this is a pure social media and branding play – but it has SEO applications too. The more people “talk” about your brand online and share via social networks, etc., the more links you are likely to pick up to your website. And links, which measure website credibility and authority, translate into better rankings, more traffic, and more conversions. Even if the video or viral media piece has nothing to do with your keywords.
